Rb3Cr crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two Rb3Cr ribbons oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. Rb is bonded in a 2-coordinate geometry to two equivalent Cr atoms. Both Rb–Cr bond lengths are 4.24 Å. Cr is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six equivalent Rb atoms.
