Baryon-baryon interactions are discussed with an emphasis on those aspects which reflect the composite nature of baryons and mesons. The constituent quark model is specifically chosen and the quark exchange mechanism for the short-range part of the baryon-baryon interaction is first explained. Various attempts to combine the quark picture with the conventional meson exchange picture are then discussed. A special role of vector mesons with their composite nature is also examined. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
