On the basis of the generally accepted classification of corrosion inhibitors, the functional properties of chemical compounds belonging to the most common classes, namely, water-soluble, water-oil-soluble, and oil-soluble surfactants, as well as multifunctional combined inhibitors containing the above compounds and inhibited protective petroleum-based compositions are discussed. It is shown that multifunctional (universal) compositions, which are efficient both in low-polar media (gasoline, oils, etc.) and in polar (aqueous) media (lubricant-coolant technological fluids; washing fluids; inhibitors for systems of the type petroleum-corrosive electrolyte, etc.), can be created by using proper combinations of multifunctional surfactants.
