Recent data are reviewed on the resistance of modern austenitic-ferritic stainless steels to different types of corrosion, e.g., general, intergranular, pitting, crevice, and stress-cracking corrosion (SCC), as well as corrosion-fatigue resistance in acid, alkaline, and chloride solutions, including those simulating the working media of the oil and gas industry (high temperature, pressure, and exposure to H{sub 2}S and CO{sub 2}). These steels may replace more-alloyed, expensive steels and alloys used in chemical, oil and gas, pulp and power, and other industries.
