Fullerenes C{sub 60} and C{sub 70} are known to react with elemental fluorine and chlorine as well as with as other halogen compounds. This work is devoted to investigating the thermodynamic properties of gaseous fullerene fluorides and calculating average enthalpies of a C-Halogen bond in fullerene halides. The experimental data was obtained by the effusion Knudsen method with mass spectral monitoring of the gasphases composition. Enthalpies for the formation of various fullerene fluorides along with enthalpies for the bonds are given. Although mathematics indicate that the fullerene chlorides and bromides should be thermally unstable, chlorides do exist in the gas phase in equilibrium with chlorine under a relatively low partial pressure of the latter.
