The ultrasonic pulse superposition method was applied to the specimens under uniaxial pressure at 77 and 298 K to determine a full set of third-order elastic constants of silicate glasses: silica, lithium silicate, and window glasses. The data obtained were used to calculate the pressure derivatives of elastic moduli of glasses and the relevant Grueneisen parameters. The third-order elastic constants of silica glass were found to be (anomalously) positive quantities and to increase with cooling. Lithium silicate and window glasses exhibit the ordinary negative third-order elastic constants at 298 K, although at low temperatures their anharmonicity acquires some features of silica glass.
