Materials Data on SmEu3 by Materials Project
Eu3Sm is Magnesium-derived structured and crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Eu is bonded to eight equivalent Eu and four equivalent Sm atoms to form EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra that share corners with four equivalent SmEu12 cuboctahedra, corners with fourteen equivalent EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra, edges with six equivalent SmEu12 cuboctahedra, edges with twelve equivalent EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra, faces with four equivalent SmEu12 cuboctahedra, and faces with sixteen equivalent EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra. There are a spread of Eu–Eu bond distances ranging from 3.79–3.91 Å. There are two shorter (3.81 Å) and two longer (3.85 Å) Eu–Sm bond lengths. Sm is bonded to twelve equivalent Eu atoms to form SmEu12 cuboctahedra that share corners with six equivalent SmEu12 cuboctahedra, corners with twelve equivalent EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra, edges with eighteen equivalent EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra, faces with eight equivalent SmEu12 cuboctahedra, and faces with twelve equivalent EuSm4Eu8 cuboctahedra.
