EuNb3 crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Eu is bonded to twelve equivalent Nb atoms to form a mixture of face and corner-sharing EuNb12 cuboctahedra. There are six shorter (3.26 Å) and six longer (3.33 Å) Eu–Nb bond lengths. Nb is bonded in a 12-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Eu and six equivalent Nb atoms. There are two shorter (2.76 Å) and four longer (3.00 Å) Nb–Nb bond lengths.
