This paper describes the experimental study of seismic responses of a piping system focusing on coupling effect between a supporting structure and a piping. A three dimensional space frame mock-up of 30m total-length and 8 inch diameter piping supported by the supporting structure were excited by a large shaking table. Four different supporting structures with different stiffness and weight were provided to investigate the responses of the piping-supporting structure system coupled with friction. Response reduction of the piping due to friction force was observed depending on the degree of softness of the supporting structures.
