Availability of recently proven technologies and their effects on FPS economics

Conference ·
OSTI ID:170329
The last three years have seen several equipment systems developed and installed in Floating Production Systems (FPS) that offer advantages tailored to the operation of these vessels. Further, they are not tied to any one designer or builder, opening the way for wider and more creative ways to design and build these vessels. This paper describes some of the performance and economic effects these equipment systems may have on FPS. The technologies that are discussed are: swivel versus drag chains; turret rotation; linear chain tensioners versus windlasses and winches; smaller turrets with internal mooring; disconnectability; and new capabilities in riser bundle quick connect/disconnect.
