Impact of government regulations on diesel fuels

Recent government regulations have had a profound effect on the refining, blending and marketing of diesel fuels. This presentation describes the technical justification for the EPA regulation for low sulfur diesel fuel and the effect that this regulation has had on diesel fuel properties and performance. The new IRS regulations which require the use of dyes in diesel fuels are also reviewed. The potential for further changes in diesel fuel requirements beyond 1994 is discussed, including proposed regulations for emissions from heavy duty vehicles that may require use of alternative fuels.
