Dy2TeS2 is Corundum-derived structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Immm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Dy3+ is bonded to two equivalent Te2- and four equivalent S2- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing DyTe2S4 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedra tilt angles range from 0–23°. Both Dy–Te bond lengths are 3.08 Å. All Dy–S bond lengths are 2.73 Å. Te2- is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Dy3+ atoms. S2- is bonded to four equivalent Dy3+ atoms to form a mixture of distorted edge and corner-sharing SDy4 trigonal pyramids.
