DyEu3 is Magnesium-derived structured and crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Dy is bonded to twelve equivalent Eu atoms to form DyEu12 cuboctahedra that share corners with six equivalent DyEu12 cuboctahedra, corners with twelve equivalent EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra, edges with eighteen equivalent EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra, faces with eight equivalent DyEu12 cuboctahedra, and faces with twelve equivalent EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra. There are six shorter (3.78 Å) and six longer (3.82 Å) Dy–Eu bond lengths. Eu is bonded to four equivalent Dy and eight equivalent Eu atoms to form EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra that share corners with four equivalent DyEu12 cuboctahedra, corners with fourteen equivalent EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra, edges with six equivalent DyEu12 cuboctahedra, edges with twelve equivalent EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra, faces with four equivalent DyEu12 cuboctahedra, and faces with sixteen equivalent EuEu8Dy4 cuboctahedra. There are a spread of Eu–Eu bond distances ranging from 3.75–3.89 Å.
