Sc2PtHg crystallizes in the orthorhombic Immm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two Sc2PtHg ribbons oriented in the (1, 0, 0) direction. Sc is bonded in a linear geometry to one Pt and one Hg atom. The Sc–Pt bond length is 2.35 Å. The Sc–Hg bond length is 3.03 Å. Pt is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Sc atoms. Hg is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent Sc atoms.
