A new polarized ion source has been constructed at RCNP. It employs cold ({similar_to}35 K) atomic beam technology and an electron cyclotron resonance ionizer. The source was assembled and installed on the shielding roof of the AVF cyclotron in Feb. 1994. Performance tests of the atomic beam section was started in March. Protons were extracted from the ionizer in April, and the optimization of the source was performed after this. A new axial injection line to the AVF cyclotron was installed in this summer. The new system should push experimental programs with polarized beams accelerated by the K=400 ring cyclotron. The design of the system and results from operation of the source will be described.
