Strange particle production in {sup 32}S-nucleus collisions at 200 GeV/nucleon
- GSI, Darmstadt and Fachbereich Physik der Universitat Frankfurt (Germany)
Results of the systematic study of strange particle production in central {sup 32}S induced collisions on S, Ag and Au targets show that {ital K}{sup 0}{sub {ital S}}, {Lambda} and {bar {Lambda}}, all have exponential m{sub {ital t}} distributions in agreement with a thermal distribution at temperatures of 200--240 MeV. The rapidity distributions, in contrast, are very different for all three particles and also change in shape for the different colliding systems. Comparing the total yield of strange to non-strange particles an enhancement of a factor of 2 is observed. For the {sup 32}S+S system the measurement of the complete charged particle final state leads to a rather complicated picture of the system at freeze-out. {copyright} 1995 {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
