Structure function of {sup 4}He and the nucleon-nucleon correlation

Within the convolution formula we calculate the structure function {ital F}{sub 2}({ital x}) of {sup 4}He with the use of a realistic spectral function. At 0.2{le}{ital x}{le}0.8 the experimental data of {ital R}({ital x})={ital F}{sub 2}({ital x},{sup 4}He)/{ital F}{sub 2}({ital x},{sup 2}H) is reasonably well reproduced by our result which takes into account only the nucleonic degrees of freedom. Our result also shows that around {ital x}=1 {ital R}({ital x}) has an oscillatory shape, which is sensitive to the high momentum and high removal energy component of the nuclear spectral function. It is pointed out that the experimental data of {ital R}({ital x}) at around {ital x}=1 will give us a crucial information on the nucleon-nucleon correlation. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
