In3Si crystallizes in the hexagonal P6_3/mmc space group. The structure is three-dimensional. In+1.33+ is bonded in a see-saw-like geometry to four equivalent Si4- atoms. There are two shorter (3.22 Å) and two longer (3.26 Å) In–Si bond lengths. Si4- is bonded to twelve equivalent In+1.33+ atoms to form a mixture of face and corner-sharing SiIn12 cuboctahedra.
