Nucleon resonance electroproduction results from SLAC: {ital R}={sigma}{sub {ital L}}/{sigma}{sub {ital T}} and the Roper P{sub 11}(1440) resonance

Inclusive measurements of nucleon resonance cross sections for large angle (14{degree}{lt}{theta}{lt}61{degree}) electron scattering from deuterium and hydrogen have been measured for incident energies of 2{lt}{ital E}{sub 0}{lt}9.75 GeV. Scattered electrons were detected in both the 8 GeV and 1.6 GeV spectrometers in End Station A at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The cross sections have been used in conjunction with previous SLAC data to perform Rosenbluth type separations and to measure the longitudinal component of the cross sections. {ital R}={sigma}{sub {ital L}}/{sigma}{sub {ital T}}, the ratio of the longitudinal and transverse components of the cross section, is presented and is found to be small throughout the entire resonance region (1{lt}{ital W}{sup 2}{lt}4 GeV{sup 2}). Some necessary reanalysis of existing data and a global fit to all available SLAC resonance region data are discussed.
