Problems and prospects in hypernuclear physics
- Racah Institute of Physics, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem 91904 (Israel)
Issues of topical interest in hypernuclear physics are highlighted. These include the spin dependence of the effective {Lambda}N interaction and the nature of the {Lambda}N{r_arrow}NN nonmesonic weak decay in {Lambda} hypernuclei; the density dependence of the {Sigma} nuclear potential, as suggested by reanalyzing the {Sigma}{sup {minus}} atomic data, and its implications for {Sigma} hypernuclei; the interplay for strangeness S={minus}2 between {Xi} hypernuclei and {Lambda}{Lambda} hypernuclei; and the extrapolation to arbitrarily strange nuclei, S{r_arrow}{minus}{infinity}, composed of p,n,{Lambda},{Xi}{sup {minus}},{Xi}{sup 0} baryons. Comments are also made on the search for strange dibaryons, and the prospects for studying propagation of hidden strangeness in nuclei. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
