A feasibility study was performed to install a 10 MWe coal direct chemical looping steam generation system at the City of Dover Municipal Power Plant in Dover, Ohio. The chemical looping plant utilized Ohio State University's iron-oxide-based metal oxide, and a moving bed reducer coupled with a transport reactor combustor. The Babcock & Wilcox Company developed the component designs and integrated the chemical looping process with the steam cycle. A four-module design was developed which would serve as a prototype arrangement for much larger systems. An environmental study was completed to support the installation of the large pilot plant at the site.
