Improve project implementation with CDP

Journal Article · · Hydrocarbon Processing
OSTI ID:163253

This article introduces a team approach concept to project management called Cooperative Design Process (CDP). Each refinery project phase is reviewed to demonstrate the team members` roles. The article also quantifies benefits of a team-managed project and demonstrates that CDP not only improves efficiency, but can make the difference between success and failure. In the next decade, the refining industry will experience a significant growth in demand for petroleum products worldwide. For the first time in nearly two decades, new grassroots refinery projects will be needed. To meet next century challenges, refinery projects must be well-planned for efficient implementation from conception to startup and daily operation of the refinery. To meet these demands, innovative technology and innovative approaches to the work process are required. Using a CDP approach, licensors can work with refiners and contractors to meet the challenge of profitably installing necessary new refinery capacity and still meet the growing requirements for cleaner fuels in a safer, cleaner environment.
