The urgency of pulsed high-power X-ray radiation source production -- quanta energy in the range 10--100 keV -- is provided by the necessity of solving a wide range of practical tasks. In the traditional way of solving this problem for enhancing the yield of radiation, the high-voltage facilities are used that unavoidably results in the emergence of a hard component in the spectrum. Physical principles of hard X-ray (HXR) production at a facility of the plasma focus type with the plane geometry of electrodes are presented. The results of studying the X-ray radiation field and its spectral and time characteristics are presented in this paper. The radiation dose was measured with thermoluminescent dosemeters based on LiF. The detailed field cartogram is given. The radiation spectrum was reconstructed from the absorption curves measured by the method of the filters with a 14-channel spectrometer. The experimental results from the facility modifications -- where the HXR energy densities > 1 J/cm2 were produced -- are given.
