One of the promising methods of production of Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-SiO{sub 2}-ZrO{sub 2} system ceramics is use of active original powders obtained by the sol-gel method. In connection with the high degree of dispersion of active powders the density of compacts of them with use of normal pressing pressures (about 0.1 GPa) is low, which makes sintering difficult and leads to a decrease in density and strength of the sintered materials. To increase the density of compacts grinding of the powders to break up agglomerates and increased pressing pressures, including hydrostatic pressing, are used. In this case it is normally limited to pressures of 0.2-0.6 GPa. At the same time in a number of works the promise of use of hydrostatic pressures all the way up to 1.0-2.0 GPa was shown using certain oxides as an example. The purpose of this work was an investigation of the influence of hydrostatic pressing by pressures up to 2.0 GPa on the sintering processes and physicomechanical properties of a sintered Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-SiO{sub 2}-ZrO{sub 2} system material of powder obtained by the sol-gel method.
