This illustrated handbook provides more than 240 pages of practical, affordable and easy-to-understand steps consumers can take to make their homes more energy efficient without sacrificing convenience or comfort. In the process, they can save money on utility bills and lower impacts on the environment. The guide lists and rates high efficiency home appliances and equipment (from light bulbs to furnaces, air conditioners to washing machines) by brand name and model number in easy-to-read tables that accompany the descriptive text. Chapters cover: energy use and the environment; insulating and sealing air leaks; heating and cooling systems; water heating; food storage; cooking; dishwashing; laundry; lighting and much more. The 1994, or fourth, edition of this popular guide will be available in late spring.
