Plasma sprayed Al-Si-polyimide coatings are being evaluated for air-oil seals in industrial gas turbines applications. Plasma spray process parameters have been varied to produce coatings with different hardnesses and consequently different abradability. The effects of various time/temperature exposures on the microstructure and macrohardness of the Al-Si-polyimide coatings have been studied. Furthermore, abradability rig testing was also conducted on as-coated and thermally exposed Al-Si-polyimide coatings. Long term thermal durability was also investigated.
