Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are priority pollutants of the environment, and the problems of their analysis have received much attention. A great variety of chromatographic techniques is used for these purposes: gas chromatographic techniques is used for these purposes: gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and, recently, supercritical fluid chromatography. However, the technique of HPLC on reversed-phase columns with fluorometric detection is evidently the most widely used in practical analyses of PAHs. In this publication, the authors consider a procedure for separating PAHs from water samples by solid-phase extraction on the sorbent XAD-2 followed by fractionation on the same column, as well as by analyzing the separated extract by high-speed liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection.
