The Alberta Special Waste Treatment Center, located near Swan Hills, Alberta, Canada, treats and disposes wastes through stabilization, deep well disposal, landfilling, physical and chemical treatment, and incineration. In a recent effort that more than doubles its incineration capacity, the center successfully completed performance testing of a new rotary kiln incinerator. The test results indicate that the system meets applicable Canadian emission limits, including 99.9999% destruction and removal efficiency (DRE) and a stringent limit on dioxin emissions. The new incinerator and results of the compliance tests are described in this paper. 1 ref., 1 fig., 1 tab.
