Framework for an Open-Source Life Cycle Baseline for Electricity Consumption in the United States - LCAXVII

Conference ·
OSTI ID:1576767
This work was presented at the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) LCAXVII Conference in Portsmouth, NH on October 4, 2017. NETL has developed an open source multifunctional life cycle model to quantify baseline life cycle impacts of U.S. electricity consumption. The life cycle framework is under development in OpenLCA, an open source professional LCA software. The multifunctional framework supports analysis at multiple spatiotemporal timescales as well as modularity to incorporate new datasets. Moreover, the analytic framework provides a complete environmental inventory for U.S. electricity, with the capacity to inform multiple impact assessment methods and to quantify several environmental metrics including air emissions, water use, and energy-consumption indicators.
