The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence (NSDD) seeks to improve the performance of RadioIsotope Identification Devices (RIIDs). RIIDs enable users to identifying threat nuclides in applications such as secondary search, facility inspection, and emergency response. As part of this effort NSDD has developed Replicative Assessment of Spectroscopic Equipment (RASE), an open-source tool which generates synthetic spectra and analyzes them with vendor’s radionuclide identification software in order to evaluate performance.
