Evidence for Oxygen Adatoms on TiO2(110) Resulting from O2 Dissociation at Vacancy Sites

Journal Article · · Surface Science
Suggests that low temperature O2 exposure oxidizes oxygen vacancies but leaves oxygen-containing species on the surface which are proposed to be oxygen adatoms. Suggests that the presence of O adatoms may explain inconsistencies in the literature regarding the reactivitiy of water and other species on TiO2(110). Details the importance of sample preparation techniques on the chemistry which can occur at a solid surface.
