A Final Environmental Statement for the Rocky Mountain Energy Company for the operation of the Bear Creek Uranium Mining and Milling Project in north-central Converse County, Wyoming, has been prepared by the staffs of the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and was issued by the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This statement provides (1) an evaluation of environmental impact and adverse effects of the proposed mill, and (2) a consideration of the principal alternatives. Also included are comments of governmental agencies and other organizations on the Draft Environmental Statement for this project, and staff responses to these comments. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has concluded that, after weighing the environmental, economic, technical, and other benefits of the Bear Creek Project against environmental and other costs and considering available alternatives, the action called for is issuance of a source material license to the applicant, subject to conditions stipulated in the source material license.
