Accelerated Climate Model for Energy (Final Report)
- Univ. of California, Irvine, CA (United States)
The E3SM (formerly ACME) project utilizes the netCDF Operator (NCO) toolkit to generate, regrid, and split climate datasets for pre- and post-processing analysis. NCO tools are themselves embedded in the E3SM-unified, E3SM-diags, A-Prime, MPAS-Analysis, Processflow, and LIVVkit diagnostic suites, and so improve and leverage the analysis and diagnostics capabilities of the E3SM Science and Infrastructure teams. In this project, the UCI team extended and customized NCO features used standalone and by the diagnostic suites to accelerate and ease analysis and distribution of E3SM experiments. With supplementary funding, the UCI team also contributed physical improvements to the treatment of snow in the E3SM land, land-ice, and sea-ice model components.
