Magnetic flux transfer events (FTEs) at the dayside magnetopause (MP) proposed to be caused by solar wind pressure. The dynamics and the local field and plasma signatures which are caused by the interaction of enhanced pressure regions with a current layer are modeled. The results are compared with two-dimensional magnetic reconnection processes. Equilibrium and initial perturbations are presented with boundary conditions. The dynamics of the pressure pulse propagation and signatures are discussed. Current sheet structure is detailed. 56 refs., 14 figs., 4 tabs.
