The Common Sense Initiative: Petroleum refining sector

Conference ·
OSTI ID:148119
The Common Sense Initiative is trying to answer three questions: (1) ``How does one leverage the change in corporate attitudes for more efficient compliance with pollution prevention and greater use of innovative technologies?`` (2) ``How does one incorporate new approaches into the traditional menu of EPA compliance tools?`` (3) ``How can one accomplish cleaner, cheaper, smarter results?`` One answer is to create a process that includes all stakeholders that have to either implement or live with EPA decisions. This is being done by creating stake-holder groups representing labor, communities, national and grassroots environmental organization, industries and States. The focus is on realizing improvements in: pollution prevention; innovative technologies; permitting; regulations; compliance; and reporting and recordkeeping.
