Los Alamos, Oppenheimer, and Nuclear Testing, 1943-1954 [Slides]

These slides highlight a general history (and presentation) of the Laboratory’s first twelve years of operations. The slides focus on the creation of the Laboratory following the discovery of fission, its World War II years, and early postwar testing. Some emphasis will be given to the early use of tanks and airplanes to collect radioactive debris created by atmospheric detonations during Operation Crossroads, Sandstone, Greenhouse, Ivy, and Castle.
