Using quantitative difference IR spectroscopy the authors have found that the tributyl phosphate extracts of zirconium from 12-15 M HNO{sub 3} contain ionic associates [(TBP){sub 2}H{sup +}]Zr(NO{sub 3}){sub 5}{sup -} (I) and [TBP{center_dot}H{sub 3}O{sup +} (H{sub 2}O){sub n}]Zr(NO{sub 3}){sub 5}{sup -} (II), where n = 1,2, as well as Zr(NO{sub 3}){sub 4}(TBP){sub 2} complex at a lower concentration than (I) and (II). The equilibrium I {r_reversible} II is shifted toward II at higher C{degrees}{sub HNO{sub 3}} and lower C{sub Zr}{degrees}. The structure of associates I and II is discussed.
