The authors study the effect of electron and ion reactions with fully fluorinated compounds CF{sub 4}, C{sub 2}F{sub 6}, c-C{sub 4}F{sub 8}, C{sub 6}F{sub 14}, and SF{sub 6} in the earths atmosphere, which could lead to decreases in the effective lifetimes of these compounds. Reactions are considered with O{sup +}, O{sub 2}{sup +}, O{sup {minus}}, O{sub 2}{sup {minus}}, NO{sup +}, H{sub 3}O{sup +}, NO{sub 3}{sup {minus}}, and CO{sub 3}{sup {minus}}. They find that some reactions may significantly impact lifetimes of some of the fluorine compounds, their lifetimes still remain very long.
