  1. Duke Power Co., McGuire Nuclear Station, Huntersville, NC (United States)

There can be little doubt that downsizing is one of the major events occurring at every company in America. If your company has not begun this effort, you can believe it, that it is only a matter of time. At Duke Power Company, this effort began in earnest in 1988. Since then, the changes have been considerable in the Chemistry department at McGuire, and especially significant in the Radwaste department. This paper will discuss the benefits and the problems that we have encountered, as well as the steps that we took, good and bad, to meet the challenges that we faced. Some of the processes that we used have worked out very well. Some have been very disappointing. Still others are in an indeterminate state. Time will tell if we have truly {open_quotes}coped{close_quotes}.
