The crystal structure of Pr{sub 10}O{sub 18} was determined utilizing Rietveld analysis of neutron time-of-flight (TOF) powder diffraction data. Despite the large size of the unit cell and the complexity of the structure, the refinement was successful (P2{sub 1}/c, a = 6.7304(5) {angstrom}, b = 19.390(1) {angstrom}, c = 12.794(1) {angstrom}, {beta} = 100.213(1){degrees}, V = 1643.2(4) {angstrom}{sup 3}, and Z = 4; 150 total variables, R{sub p} = 2.93%, wR{sub p} = 4.30%). The basic structural element is a pair of vacant oxygen sites separated by a 1/2 (111){sub F} vector across a metal atom, similar to those observed in the more reduced members of the Pr{sub n}O{sub 2n-2} series, Pr{sub 7}O{sub 12} and Pr{sub 9}O{sub 16}. However, the arrangement of the vacancy pairs is different from the models previously proposed on the basis of high-resolution electron microscopy.
