Highly textured La{sub 0.7}MnO{sub 3{minus}{delta}} films were grown on LaAlO{sub 3}(100) substrates for the first time. The films showed a metal-insulator transition at 220 K and exhibited giant magnetoresistance with {triangle}R/R{sub 0}=85% and {triangle}R/R{sub H} > 550%. This study demonstrates that the La{sub 1{minus}x}MnO{sub 3{minus}{delta}}films are unique among the other La{sub 1{minus}x}M{sub x}MnO{sub 3} (M = Ca, Ba, and Pb) thin films showing giant magnetoresistance by virtue of being a self-doped system.
