The complexity of California`s regulatory environment requires a great deal of cooperation between the various agencies if there is to be efficiency in the regulatory programs and workable environment for industry. The need for better coordination between agencies was also noted in the IOGCC review of California`s exploration and production waste management programs. As the number of agencies involved in regulating oil and gas exploration and production operations has increased over the years, the Department of Conservation`s Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources has worked to form working relationships with federal, state, and local agencies to streamline and simplify the regulatory process.
