Fusion cross section and mean angular momenta are calculated for the systems {sup 64}Ni + {sup 92,96}Zr and {sup 64}Ni + {sup 100}Mo within a multidimensional model. In this multidimensional model, the deformation of ions during subbarrier tunneling is taken into account. This results in a strong enhancement of the subbarrier-fusion cross section and the mean angular momentum. The dissipation of kinetic energy during heavy-ion collisions as a result of the excitation of internal degrees of freedom of nuclei and due to the exit of the system from the fusion channel is also considered. A good description of fusion cross sections is obtained for energies considerably below and above the barrier. The calculated values of the mean angular momentum are in fairly good agreement with experimental data near and below the barrier. 30 refs., 2 figs.
