Calculations performed in the random-phase approximation reveal that nonlocal separable residual interactions can lead to the formation of additional collective Gamow-Teller (GT) states located much higher than the GT giant resonance. These states can make a considerable contribution to the strength of {sigma}t{sup (-)} transitions. The distribution of the transition strength in excitation energies is in agreement with available experimental data in the region of the giant resonance and below. 11 refs., 2 figs.
