Beambasedalignmenti s beingroutinely applied in the SLC Final Focus and has proved to be a very useful tool for deEerminingthe quality of the zeroth order orbit as defined by variousbeaml ine elements.Given the stringentr equirementon thebeamquality at the interactionpoint (IF’),a well alignedbeam line is essentiali n that it minimizes the confusion which would otherwisearise in the higher order optics, the demandcalled on the correctorswhich also serveasoptical knobs, andt he problem associatedw ith the backgroundr adiation. In the SLC final focus we have beenrelying on an interplay betweent he field survey (mechanical alignment) and the orbit analysis (beam based alignment) to achieve this purpose. Mechanical alignment generallyprovidescoordinatei nformation of various beaml ine elementsa ndoffset valuesi nferredf rom thesedataandt hemodel of the beam line. Beam basedalignment is done mainly by recording the beam orbit under controlled experiment where optical elementsor orbit conditions are varied. Due to the complexity of the beamline layout and special power supply configurationi n the SLC Final Focus,t he latter methodi s useful only whencoupledwith off-line analysiswhich disentanglesthe datat aken at eachmeasurement.I n this report we describet he techniquesusedand the underlying principle, the procedureas appliedi n the Final Focus,t he outcomeof this exerciseandsome problemsencountere
