New crack tip elements for boundary element analyses of interface cracks in composite materials are developed in this paper. Stresses and displacements in these elements are singular and oscillatory (i.e. they are of the orders r{sup {minus}1/2}+i{epsilon} and r{sup 1/2}+i{epsilon} respectively). Therefore they may be used to simulate the corresponding asymptotic crack tip fields for interfacial cracks. Complex stress intensity factors defined by Hutchinson, Mear, and Rice (1987) may be easily found by using these elements. A crack along an infinite interface are analyzed. The present method is compared to a pre-existing boundary element technique.
