Current commercial cw flashlamp pumped solid-state laser systems employed in laser machining operate at multi-hundred watt to kilowatt levels and produce 30-100 times diffraction limited beam quality. Developing similar power lasers but with a beam quality 5-10 times better is an important advancement in the laser machining industry especially precision laser machining.
