The mechanical properties of reinforced plastic mortar (RPM) pipe material are typically measured prior to production in order to establish design properties and during production to ensure quality of the pipe material. However, seldom does the opportunity become available to measure the mechanical properties of service-aged (conditioned) components. The properties of the serviceaged pipes are then compared to the original production specifications. Reinforced plastic mortar (RPM) pipes were excavated from the ground after about 15 years of service, and material coupons from these pipes were subjected to various mechanical tests. These pipes had experienced different types of service conditioning. Some pipes had been in service with pressurized water for the 15 years, other pipes had experienced intermittent pressurized water, and a third group had experienced non-pressurized sewer environment. These pipe coupons were subjected to axial and hoop direction tensile testing and stiffness testing. The measured mechanical properties of these service-aged (conditioned) pipes are compared to the original production specifications for these RPM pipes. Comparisons are also made between the amount and type of service (conditioning) and the measured mechanical properties.
