The thermodynamics and chemical kinetics of the combustion in air of methane when containing varying concentrations of the common diluents CO{sub 2}, N{sub 2}, and H{sub 2}O are considered over a wide range of composition, temperature and pressure. Some approaches are then suggested towards enhancing the combustion rate of such mixtures in air.
