Search for $$\Sigma_c \to \Lambda_c \pi$$ using $$\Lambda_c \to \Sigma_s \pi \pi$$ in 250-GeV $$\pi^-$$ Nucleon Interactions

Combined cross-section times branching fraction limits are given for $$\Sigma^{++}_c \to \Lambda^+_c \pi^+$$ and $$\Sigma ^0_c \to \Lambda^+_c \pi^-$$ where $$\Lambda^+_c \to \Sigma^{\pm}_s \pi^{\mp} \pi^+$$. The $$\Lambda^+_c$$ is reconstructed with partial information on the $$\Sigma_s$$; the missing $$\Sigma_s$$. momentum is established through momentum conservation imposed by a constrained fit. The data are of $$\pi^-$$ beam interactions at 250 GeV from Fermilab experiment E769.
